I am one of the artists participating in this event. It will be my first booth event. I'll have several framed limited edition pieces for sale as well as some smaller unframed pieces for sale as well. Representing the West: a New Frontier Pine Tree Arch, Afternoon was chosen for the 2017 Representing the West: a New Frontier exhibit at the Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center in Pueblo, Colorado last January and February. Spark Gallery Sierra Club of Denver Art Auction Recently, my piece "Lake Yellowstone, Sunset" sold at the Denver Sierra Club's First Art Auction, June 10, 2017. See America One of my pieces from the "See America" project by the Creative Action Network has been chosen as part of a pilot project with a Travelodge in Yellowstone National Park to be reproduced on various pieces of merchandise along with 5 - 7 other designs for the park from the project. You can see this design, as well as others I created, on the following website: creativeaction.network/collections/rodney-buxton As I sit waiting for my students to complete their mid-term exam, I thought I'd jot down what I'd been up to over the past few days. I've worked on a couple of pieces from my trip to Upper Antelope Slot Canyon. One piece is done and can be viewed on this website under the Tribal Parks Destination button. It is a bit of an abstract piece that I'm calling "Heart of the Earth," though I haven't named it that on the site (as of yet). I should have the second piece finished this weekend.
I've also been working on updating/building this website, a process that has gone on the back burner as both my summer class and my bathroom remodel have diverted my attention. With but one week to go in the summer class but probably several more weeks to go on the remodel front, I should get a bit more done. My biggest concern lately, with respect to U.S. National Parks and Monuments, is the declassification of automatic protection from resource exploitation by corporate greed. Many of the national monuments in the southwest are targeted for strip coal mining, as well as natural gas mining. Both of these processes will alter the landscape of these public lands for hundreds of years to come, neither in a natural nor attractive way. I know that much of my retirement focus will be on calling attention to the beauty of these lands through my art and publicly voicing my criticism of their destruction. Please let me know if you have suggestions or comments with respect to my website, my art or the national parks and monuments. Until next time...
