What Is Neo-Nostaglia?
Neo-nostalgia erupts from the intersection of the vanishing present of my life and nature's vanishing presence, under the growing threat from corporations and individuals that would like to exploit national parks, national monuments and public lands for energy and mineral profits. This threat to exploit public natural resources fuels my emotional reaction of neo-nostalgia, a longing to maintain public lands in their natural, present state against industrial exploitation. Through my digital paintings and photographs, I attempt to appreciate and capture various national parks and monuments as I have experienced their presence in my humble present.

This is Johns Hopkins Glacier in Glacier Bay National Park. It is one of the few 'growing' glaciers in any of the U.S. National Park system. This digital painting is based on a photograph taken in late summer 2016, just before the park closed for the season. It was one of the clearest days that summer, according to the boat tour crew.
